Price spread across supermarkets
How wide is the price gap for the same product between the cheapest and most expensive supermarket chain? A high spread means the price you pay depends significantly on where you shop. A low spread means chains price competitively close to each other. Computed from the week of 29 September 2026. Minimum 4 chains required.
Italian wine appellations show by far the widest price spreads — a single DOC or DOCG name covers everything from entry-level supermarket bottles to premium single-vineyard selections, producing spreads of 100–250%. Food GIs are more tightly priced, reflecting narrower product variation within the same appellation.

Coefficient of variation (CV) measures week-to-week price consistency as standard deviation ÷ mean × 100; lower is more stable.
